Citizen Free Press reports that Peter Navarro, Trump’s White House adviser, has been charged with contempt of Congress, according to court documents released Friday. Navarro, 72, was charged with contempt by a federal grand jury after a subpoena was dropped from the House committee of inquiry seeking evidence and documents.

Court documents indicate that the government requested that Navarro’s allegations be “sealed until an arrest warrant is issued.” Navarro is “in custody for court appearance” after Friday.

“The allegations have been the subject of public scrutiny and public concern,” the federal prosecutor said in a statement. The defendant’s public disclosure, they wrote, “will give the defendant a chance to flee, tamper with witnesses or evidence, or take other steps to intervene in a criminal case.”

Navarro was charged with two counts of contempt of Congress, one for failing to provide documents and the other for failing to testify. The House voted in April to send Navarro to the judiciary for contempt. The committee said Navarro, a trade adviser during the Trump administration, played a key role in “the president’s efforts to overthrow the 2020 election.”

This is a constitutionally correct step.
Navarro’s allegations violate a number of key constitutional rights, including due process, fair warnings and executive privileges. It also violates the separation of powers, under which the court has the power to resolve disputes between the legislature and the executive branch over claims of executive privilege in response to legislative subpoenas. Appropriate procedures and fair warnings are required that these issues be resolved before a court can issue an indictment.
The Biden judiciary knows the law and should not act unethically to make political points.
