People have reported that Irma Garcia’s husband, one of the two teachers killed in Tuesday’s Texas elementary school shooting, has died, people have learned.
John Martinez, Garcia’s nephew, tells people that Joe Garcia, Irma’s husband of 24 years, died Thursday.

Martinez, 21, said he believed his uncle, Joe, 50, had died “with a broken heart.”

Martinez said he had been told his uncle could die of a heart attack, noting that he had been pressured into his chest in an attempt to resuscitate him.

The couple had four children together and they were high school sweethearts, he said.

Irma, 46, was a teacher at Rob Elementary School in Uvalade for 23 years.
